SCG's 2023 Annual Conference - REIMAGINE Our Economy

  • The Westin Bonaventure Hotel (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us in-person at SCG's 2023 Annual Conference!

Join SCG’s 2023 Annual Conference to reimagine economic prosperity deeply grounded in mutuality. We invite you to envision an economy that prioritizes relationships with each other and our planet over profits.

Our current economy is already profoundly dependent on mutuality, but systemic inequities undermine this spirit of reciprocity and our economic well-being. We can commit to interdependence and collective freedom by divesting from exploitative and extractive practices. We can better align with movement leaders and organizers to shift capital and power toward communities most impacted by oppressive systems.

During REIMAGINE Our Economy, we will participate in an incredible journey from imagination to integration with movement leaders, culture workers, and cross-sector practitioners. Together, we will hear from experts and engage in dialogues to share prosperity, listen to our land, resource our communities, heal our culture, and repair our relations. Our philanthropic community will learn how to apply these principles through a systems change approach in economic justice, climate and culture change, and other issue areas.

Scaling the Power of Guarantees

Join Philanthropy California to discuss the use of guarantees in impact investing and learn more about the Community Investment Guarantee Pool (CIGP).

Financial guarantees are an evolving tool for philanthropies looking to back mission-aligned projects normally beyond the scope of traditional finance. How can foundations leverage their balance sheets to accelerate community investments?

The Community Investment Guarantee Pool (CIGP) is a first of its kind platform allowing guarantors to combine resources and expertise by establishing a single, one-stop-shop for intermediary lenders in the climate, affordable housing, and small business sectors. Together, this group is making more and new types of community development transactions feasible by putting more of their assets to work in service of greater community impact.

Join us to explore guarantees as a type of credit-enhancement tool and one way that different types of capital can work together to develop attractive deals and create larger impact.

Netting Zero: Transforming the Financial System for a Zero-Carbon Future

Netting Zero: Transforming the Financial System for a Zero-Carbon Future

Traditionally, investors have had one duty – to make the greatest possible return on capital for their shareholders. It’s an outdated model that’s brought us to the brink of climate disaster, and we need a new way of understanding value and returns that looks beyond the short-term and drives resources towards scalable solutions. There are trillions of dollars in so-called ‘green’ funds, but how do we fundamentally redesign financial markets to make responsible, climate-focused investing the rule rather than the exception?

VX Virtual Hack-a-thon #3: California's Not 'Biden' Time Expediting Green Infrastructure

The cascading crises of 2020 have not only brought into stark relief the immediacy of the global climate emergency but also the deadly costs of racial and economic inequities. With little hope for another round of stimulus funding from Congress before November, VX Hack-a-thon Session #3 will explore opportunities, regardless of the election’s outcome, for paving the road to recovery with multi-benefit and community-driven green infrastructure investment.

Continuing the conversation sparked at VX2020 in January, join Milken Institute Director, Dan Carol; Stockton Sr. Economic Development Advisor, Ann Rogan; and i(x) Investments President, Christine Harada, who lead this hack-a-thon highlighting mechanisms for aligning, expediting, and optimizing green infrastructure investment with local, state, and federal COVID recovery efforts in the months to come.
